Some of us are scared of dark nights or sleeping alone. A few may make fun of it or casually say, “What is there to be scared of? Just keep a bed lamp on and sleep.”If it were really that easy, we wouldn’t speak about it openly, would we?

Instead of accepting that some people genuinely feel unsafe—like sleeping in rooms with big windows—we often try to convince them otherwise. But fear isn’t logical, and it doesn’t disappear just because someone says, “Don’t worry, nothing will happen.” What feels silly to one person is very real to another. And sometimes, a person’s expression says everything words cannot.
True safety is something that has to be felt internally. It can’t be forced, explained away, or rushed. That’s a simple truth many of us forget.
Life is full of things people aren’t comfortable with, and that’s okay. Acceptance goes a long way. When we stop enforcing our thoughts and start respecting others as they are, we create space—space for trust, understanding, and eventually, a sense of safety.
And maybe that’s one of the simplest and most beautiful ways to live peacefully together.
